With a record of 21,000 total visitors, Connichi was once again a complete success in 2012. Currently the largest anime and manga convention in the German-speaking world organised exclusively by fans for fans, Connichi was held for the 11th time in 2012 and has taken place at the Congress Palace (Kongress Palais), Kassel, every year in September since 2003.
Most of the Japanese comics and anime fans presented themselves in elaborate, home-made costumes, and posed for photographs and visitors around the Congress Palace. Some participants changed their appearance for each of the three event-days. Connichi's programme was organised by the registered association Animexx e.V. and consisted of concerts, workshops, competitions, discussions, markets and exchanges, as well as signing sessions with the Japanese guests of honour.
This big, annual event is a steadily-growing, unique meeting that makes use of all the available spaces and areas of the entire Congress Palace, as well as the modern IT-infrastructure.
The organisers has stated that the Congress Palace offers the ideal surroundings particularly following its expansion and mondernisation just last year. The function is therefore likely to be situated in Kassel in the years to come.
