IBTM Trends Watch is predicting that 2018 will be a bright year for the global meetings and events industry, which is good news for unique conference venues across the world. In a report unveiled at IBTM World in Barcelona, findings suggest that the past few years of geopolitical and economic instability has led to a renewed level of confidence as the industry focuses on getting on with the job.
Managing Director of Mice Knowledge Dr Rob Davidson says: “There’s no getting away from the fact that there is still a period of uncertainty ahead, with several evolving and new economic and geopolitical developments continuing to play out across the globe. However, our industry is approaching this proactively, continuing to ‘take care of business’ both literally and figuratively, which points to a very positive year ahead.”
There was one note of caution, however, which conference venues in the UK will need to take note of. IBTM seemed to suggest that, although the UK industry is still performing resiliently, the continued uncertainty surrounding the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union may undermine this, with the report citing anecdotal evidence that may reduce the confidence of the UK market.
The report also stressed the need to cope with instability and how necessary it is to be aware of different scenarios so that events organisations can adapt to take advantage of the new-found optimism.
Alistair Turner, Managing Director of EIGHT PR and Marketing, said: “As we head into 2018 the hesitancy of previous years has been replaced by renewed confidence, manifesting itself as a more responsible and positive industry that increasingly operates without borders.”
